19 Jan Meditation & Masks
I’ve been thinking a lot about meditation because it’s something I’ve been relying on during these challenging times of the pandemic, our political climate and through all the “normal” stresses in life.
I wanted to demystify some (not all) of the meditation techniques so that you could try one out this week. Or, if you have a practice you already do, please let me know. I would love to hear about it!
Guided Meditation – this is the one I use often. I have a few apps I love. Sometimes it’s nice to have someone else’s words in your ear to help you focus your attention
Breathe Meditation – there are many versions of this that all lead to you focusing on your breath
Mantra Meditation – this uses a Sanskrit mantra or phrase that you repeat throughout the meditation. Deepak Chopra uses this technique often
Moving Meditation – you can meditate while walking (I haven’t been able to get into this one:). The idea is to focus on an object like the trees or being in the present moment. Activities such as Qigong/Yoga/Marshall Arts are all forms of moving meditation
Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation – you could spend your life studying these styles of meditation and just scratch the surface. To be honest, this is the one I know the least about. My mom practices this style so if you see her around ask her!
The bottom line is there is no right or wrong way to meditate. Meditation is a practice. The only rule is to continue to practice it to reap its’ rewards.
Now how do masks fit into this discussion? My beautiful artist friend, Renee Miller, shared how she accidentally spilled essential oils on her mask. When she put on her mask later that day (numerous times I’m sure) she ended up loving the smell of her mask. If you know Renee, you know she’s an absolute ray of sunshine. Of course she turned a potential negative into a positive. I tried it today with a drop of my fav oil and it was great!
ONE ACTION STEP:
Try out one of these meditation styles one time each day this week. Let me know what style is your favorite?
