21 Sep An Interview With Me
My friend, Alison from Ignite Wellness Studio has asked me a few questions on the big topic of “wellness”. Here’s the interview:
What is your area of expertise, or what do you specialize in?
As a certified health and life coach, My specialty is stress/anxiety and helping people discover what they truly want. I help people that are overwhelmed, depleted or exhausted discover easy to implement health & fitness strategies so they can be more present in their life for the things they love doing. I also help moms that are overwhelmed balancing a healthy lifestyle and motherhood find themselves again. I do this through private one on one coaching and through my transformational fitness and body reset programs.
What does wellness mean to you?
To me wellness is holistic. It means you feel balance in your life. All areas of your life: health, career, relationships, spirituality all feel nurtured. Wellness is different for everybody so that’s why it’s important for each person to take the time to figure out what “being well” means to them.
What’s your biggest impact tip you give to your clients?
Start SMALL!! It’s so easy to get overwhelmed in our modern day society. There is so much information out there it can drive someone nutty. Most people have good intentions and want to live well. For example, a client may want to start exercising. They will say to themselves, “I am going to go to the gym for 2 hours everyday.” That may end up being unrealistic so they try it for a week and fail. Then end up giving up going to the gym completely. It’s better to set a realistic smaller goal like, “I am going to go to the gym (or incorporate some physical activity you love doing) twice a week.” Put those dates in your calendar and then make that happen. After awhile you can add in more dates and before you know it you are working out or doing something physical most days of the week.
How do you work wellness into your business model?
It has been completely built into my business model. Wellness is my business haha! In my 90 day program I have 12 weekly sessions that build upon each other. In these sessions we focus on some aspect of my client’s wellness and how they can move forward in their life. I get so fired up and inspired working with people and seeing them start to feel better. This is the most rewarding thing to me.
As an entrepreneur/business owner, what’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
I felt very challenged by social media and technology in general. I used to have a lot fo self defeating thoughts. I would say things like, “I am not good at technology.” I would come to it with that energy. This wasn’t serving me at all! Now, I know how to better delegate the tasks in my business that I am not good at. I did end up creating my own website by myself! It’s an example of how we talk to ourselves can really limit our external reality. I’ve learned so much about myself through these challenges so I am now grateful for them. I know I will have more in the future but I know how to better deal with them now by shifting my attitude.
How do you incorporate wellness into your own life?
I am a firm believer in having a morning ritual. I usually try to do something calming in the morning like meditating, journaling, stretching or reading an inspirational book for about 15-20 minutes. I’ve found it doesn’t take long and you can make it a habit if you just get on that mat or have a place in your home to go to and do it. I also try to add in some type of physical movement every day like walking the dog, surfing when I can, or doing yoga. Being active is a huge part of my life so it’s a non negotiable for me. I am more productive at work, a better wife and parent when I’ve done these things for myself.
Parting words of wisdom?
It’s the human experience to create suffering for ourselves but the fact is that we don’t have to suffer as much as we do. Yes, there are terrible events in this world and that will happen in your life but how we choose to deal with, react to and learn from those events is key. And, that we have a lot of PERSONAL POWER. I really wish that everyone taps into their own personal power and lives their best life possible. It is my mission in life to help us all express the best version of ourselves and reflect that back into the world:)
Pay it forward..who inspires you?
